Staying Healthy is essential for all people including minorities. There are actions that can be taken to improve chances of living longer and healthier lives. These actions include eating fruits, vegetables, and diets low in saturated fat. Regular exercise, maintaining positive mental attitude, no smoking and regular blood pressure checks as well as annual physicals can contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Huron Hospital's Get Healthy! Get Fit! aerobic classes and Living Fit and Staying Healthy lifestyle cooking and health education classes have been very successful at educating the minority community, employees, residents and patients on staying healthy. Call 216-761-7464 for more information.
Please consult a physician for additional suggestions for staying healthy. Nearly 32% of African Americans do not have a regular physician. It is important to get access to a physician in order to stay healthy and avoid becoming part of chronic disease statistics.
